“It should be, ‘Here’s the mirror - and now are you OK?’”

Bro, when Trent Reznor thinks you have a problem with illegal substances, it’s probably so. And Trent “former friend” Reznor thinks Marilyn Manson has a problem with illegal substances. Apparently the problem is so great that the man who makes a career out of trying to be a parent-scaring badass is actually capable of breaking down sobbing when he doesn’t get his fix.

It’s not that I mean to make light of the situation, but there is something pretty ridiculous about a guy who prides himself on being a living freakshow actually tearing up a little over his lack of cocaine.

Also, I’d be honored to show up at an AA meeting and get asked for an autograph. But then maybe not…

Katy Perry calls something tacky, the whole world takes a breath

Posted by Marshall on 4th June 2009 in News

You know who says tacky stuff…?

Wait for it…

It’s not Katy Perry!

Apparently, the tacky individual in question is none other than Beth Ditto of Gossip, who had the sheer nerve to point out that Katy Perry’s song I Kissed a Girl may not be the greatest sapphic song of all time.

Whatever, I just side with whichever one has nudes.

Edit:
Susan Boyle has been lent a hand by Beth Ditto. In hopes they form a more holy union under God.

Daniel Higgs gets interviewed by Stereogum and Andrew WK, blows my mind

Posted by Marshall on 16th March 2009 in News

Daniel Higgs is the legendary frontman of the genius, brilliant, awesome, amazing, fantastic, gorgeous, poetic punk band Lungfish. He now has a solo career.

Let’s just say he answers his first question this way:

Music can be defined as True or False, with authority, as it is perceived into the psycho-spiritual-architectonic construct, that is, the unique orientation and vantage of the listener (the musician is a listener). True music may behave as though False — False music may behave as though True. And True music may become False, False becomes True. I can say more another time.

Bro, if I knew what the fuck that meant, I’d be working for NASA right now. Or maybe at least have a GED.

Anyway, the interview can be found here and is worth reading.

No More Indie Rock

This is a sad day for music. After several decades of existence, Touch and Go, one of the most consistent and best labels around, is saying good bye.

Miss you guys already. ): My day, it is ruined!

Update:

It looks like some of the news about this was a little wrong. Corey Rusk’s statement about it is here:

“It is with great sadness that we are reporting some major changes here at Touch and Go Records. Many of you may not be aware, but for nearly 2 decades, Touch and Go has provided manufacturing and distribution services for a select yet diverse group of other important independent record labels. Titles from these other labels populate the shelves of our warehouse alongside the titles on our own two labels, Touch and Go Records, and Quarterstick Records.

“Unfortunately, as much as we love all of these labels, the current state of the economy has reached the point where we can no longer afford to continue this lesser known, yet important part of Touch and Go’s operations. Over the years, these labels have become part of our family, and it pains us to see them go. We wish them all the very best and we will be doing everything we can to help make the transition as easy as possible.

“Touch and Go will be returning to its roots and focusing solely on being an independent record label. We’ll be busy for a few months working closely with the departing labels and scaling our company to an appropriate smaller size after their departure. It is the end of a grand chapter in Touch and Go’s history, but we also know that good things can come from new beginnings.”
